Conference Schedule

The topic and composition of each panel will be finalized after the presenter registration deadline (Thursday, July 17, 2025).

Accommodation

Please note that as the UN General Assembly will be in session during the conference, hotel rates are high and many hotels are already sold out. Presenters are encouraged to book their rooms early.

Conference Hotel Block

A conference block of rooms will be available at a hotel within walking distance of the Graduate Center, CUNY for the nights of September 25 and 26 at a rate of ~$450/night (including taxes and fees). A grab-and-go breakfast is included. A link to the conference block will be emailed after registration. Rooms must be booked before August 25, 2025.

Teacher’s College Guest Housing

Thanks to co-sponsorship by the Arabic Studies Seminar at Columbia University, a limited number of rooms are available at the guest housing at Teacher’s College (517 West 121st Street; 35-45 minutes from the conference venues by subway). Rates for rooms at Teacher’s College are $154/night to $205/night depending on size. There is one room available on September 25. At this writing, five rooms are available starting on September 26 but require a three-night minimum booking (no weekend checkout). If interested, please write to conference@marnialazreg.work.

Other Options

Other more economical options can be found on apartment/room share services such as airbnb.com . The conference venues can be reached by subway or public bus in under 45 minutes from most parts of Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn or Queens near the East River. Google Maps‘ directions feature is a good way to explore public transport options from your accommodations to the conference venues.

Other hotels that have served Graduate Center or Roosevelt House conferences in the past include: The Gardens Sonesta ES Suites New York Hotel (215 East 64th Street, NYC, 10065); The Shelburne Sonesta Hotel (303 Lexington Ave, New York, NY 10016); and NH Collection New York Madison (22 E 38th St, New York, NY 10016). Rates are likely to be very high at those hotels at this time, however.
